Forum Title: Best Practice for PEX Supply?
Plumbing Pros, Question - when running PEX to new bathrooms, I generally change to copper pipe about 2 feet away from the shutoffs behind the wall. I do this because: 1) I like to use nice chromed shaft shut-off valves 2) I'm scared of melting the PEX when sweating on said valve... The practice is a time suck and seems wasteful, so I'm wounding what best practices are here? I've seen nice chrome PEX valves, but I'm under the impression that you'd see a bit of the PEX pipe protruding from the wall? right? What do you all do? Thanks in advance! Jay

Thanks Frodo - So you always use compression shut-offs? Not sure why, by I've always been under the impression that sweated valves were more secure? I usually use:http://www.supplyhouse.com/Matco-Nor...heon-Lead-Free something like that with the 5 chrome tube. Have you ever had any compression fitting failures?

Have you ever had any compression fitting failures? have installed thousands, only problem i have is if not installed correctly my question is why spend the extra bucks when you do not have to if you put your #15 ridgid cutters on the pipe, and leave 1 finger space between handle and wall {hows that for a measurement} cut the copper. a regular stop and eschusion will fit flush to wall with out any copper showing
